Growing up, I moved more than 30 times. We often stayed in other people’s houses, never knowing how long we’d be there or where we’d end up next.
When I wrote Cinder Girl, I wanted people to understand that poverty is about so much more than not having money. It’s also about instability, uncertainty, and often not having a place you call home.
It’s something I hope we all remember, especially when it comes to children. You never know what a child’s home life looks like, what they’ve been through, or what they’re going home to at the end of the day.
You never know when it’s your kind words, your smile, or your simple gesture that brightens a child’s day and gives them hope ❤️ #bekind

I grew up seeing things no child should have to see. And I know firsthand that what happens behind closed doors can affect families for generations.
It’s one of the reasons I’ve spent so much of my life fighting for those who don’t always have a voice.
If you’re experiencing it—let me say clearly, there is NOTHING that you could do or say that warrants someone putting their hands on you or harming you in any way.
If you can’t walk away, start working on a plan to leave safely. Call the hotline, they can let you know what resources are available to help. ❤️
